Nintendo Direct (2/13/2019) Thoughts

My Picks from Nintendo Direct presented on February 13th 2019

Nintendo presented a Direct mainly focused on Fire Emblem: Three Houses and along with it a lot of RPGs coming to the Switch over the next couple of months. I would be going over all the announced games but here is the list of announced from the Direct at the end of this article. To start things off Super Mario Maker 2 is definitely on my wish list. I didn’t own a Wii U so I didn’t get the full experience of Super Mario Maker, though I did play it on the 3DS though and that port worked fine. It will be interesting to see what features they add to Mario Maker 2 to make it stand out from the Wii U version but it is a welcome addition to the system.  Next thing that caught my eye was Oninaki, made by the same people who did ‘I am Setsuna’ and ‘Lost Sphere’. It looks to be an interesting world to explore and hopefully it’s a good time. An odd ball announcement was Tetris 99, Tetris battle royal where clearing lines off your board will add junk to an opponent’s board. I have put some time into this game and I have been enjoying my time. I will talk about more about Tetris 99 later this month. Lastly the last 2 announcements I found interesting. First was Astral Chain by Platinum Games and it looks to be an interesting world to explore and more curious how combat will work as it looks like you are chained to a partner. The other surprise was the announcement of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening being remastered for the Switch. The series has always been interesting to me but never really got into the series. The art style seems to have a bit toy/chibi look to it and it keeping the over the top 2D camera view. I am excited give that game a try. Other announcements that I like was hearing Captain Toad is finally getting a proper co-op mode, as a free update, and will get some additional level so that should be fun. The good part of this Direct was most of the titles that were announced are coming out between March and August so there isn’t much of a wait. Overall, I thought it was a good Nintendo Direct and curious if they held on to their big announcement for E3. As promised, below is the full list of announcements and hopefully you found something you like.
